Ammonium Carbonate

Ammonium Carbonate available in the form of white crystalline powder that is used as a smelling salt and leavening agent. It is a substitute to baking soda, baking powder and other leavening agents. As it entirely decomposes into gases, it leaves no bad taste in baked goods. Also called bakers ammonia or hartshorn, it is utilized in certain smokeless tobacco products. With the chemical formula (NH₄)₂CO₃, this chemical compound is used as an active ingredient in cough syrup that relieves bronchitis symptoms.
